October 2005 - Finally in Croatia which was the main destination of our trip.
Opatija | Rijeka | Road to Zagreb | Zagreb | Varaždin
We arrived in Croatia on Sunday, October 2nd. Weather was sunny and already on the border the scenery had a bit more Mediterranean touch.

From the border, we headed to the town of Opatija. It may not be the most Croatian type of town as it has been a tourism centre already from the 19th century. I had been there once before myself, too, as a kid in the 1980s. At that time, Croatia was still part of Yugoslavia.

We had no time to swim and it started to become rainy. Hence we only dipped our feet to the Mediterranean sea each.

Rijeka is somewhat bigger city than Opatija. Its name means 'river'. We had lunch there as we thought it might be more reasonably priced than in Opatija.

It was already night as we arrived to Zagreb. There was a flat for Santeri which was located in a southern suburb called Novi Zagreb. Jarre and Santeri stayed there for the night. Sonja and I, we went to the city centre where we had a Hospitality Club accommodation.

Next day was Monday and Santeri had some business to do in the university. Jarre was on his own tramway trip around the city. Sonja and I, we explored the city centre by foot.
On this page, I have only small fraction of all my Zagreb photos (mostly those with people). I'll open a separate Zagreb photo page later.

In the morning, we left Zagreb and headed back to Helsinki. Our first stop was the city of Varaždin in the northern part of Croatia.
